Introduction & Context
A number of early civilisations such as the African Bushmen, the Celts and the Native Americans understood that we are all one, that we are all connected, and lived in communion with nature. Leaning towards a nomadic existence, these cultures did not build walls or fences, nor did they embrace the concept of ‘conquering to acquire more land’.
Their way of life instead embraced interconnectedness and a strong awareness of All That Is. Territorial living fosters separation, exclusivity and isolation from Other.
Prey animals – horses – are unquestionably nomadic creatures and have no desire to conquer, but would rather flee from danger, taking only what they need as they move along.
Somehow, somewhere along the line as we ‘evolved’ and our need for horses gradually transformed from necessary to recreational, we lost track of the fact that horses are indeed prey animals. And that prey and predator are fundamentally different. So we set about conquering, forcing and making these noble creatures do as we pleased, or needed, to achieve desired results. Results which often have to do with self-importance.
Horse Sense is about understanding the world of prey, looking at the world through their eyes, that it may be possible for us to collaborate – effectively and harmoniously.
